Treudeau Waiter's Corkscrew

The only thing easier than using this tool to open a wine bottle? A wine bottle that's got a screw top cap!

What does one look for in a good waiter's corkscrew? In short, well built, easy to use, and does the job effortlessly. Well, this one does all three. It's double lever action makes getting the cork out pretty much a breeze as it's now two steps instead of one. And it's rugged enough to withstand years of use. Included is a serrated, fold-away knife to help cut the foil away from the top, and the grooved spiral corkscrew will really grip the cork. Pretty much the only device I use of late to open wine bottles. It's retail price is $15, but I've seen them for as little as $10, maybe less.

Sol Casal NV Tempranillo Spain

The Continental Airlines selection @34,000 feet in coach class. Drinkable, but an echo of a better example. Some better choices might be: Inwood Estates 2005, pricey at $32 a bottle, or Arzuaga Pago Florentino 2005, at about $16 a bottle.

Big House White 2008 White Wine California

Something of an unusual duck. You nose says one thing but your taste buds don't quite concur. Best on some hot day in summer. But don't serve this too chilled as it shuts down some of the taste.

Anticipation 2007 Red Wine California

For a blend of varietals of undetermined origins, a tasty, if somewhat relatively pricey wine.
